I was at Mardel picking up a book for my mother-in-law today and in line was a man in a wheel chair and an elderly woman. The man had finished his purchase when the woman asked the man if he had read the book she was buying. He told her that the Bible was enough for him. She responded by saying that the book she was buying would knock his socks off. Without missing a beat he said that the Bible knocks his socks off everyday.
When the conversation ended I was jealous. I was jealous because far too often I read the Bible and remain unaffected. I will read of the transformations that God makes in peoples lives and have little reaction to it. Reading how Christ humbled himself by taking the form of man, became obedient to the point of death on a cross and rose three days later and not be moved to worship. In other words my socks are still on.
I want that to change. I need to slow down, study more instead of just reading, ask, no beg, God to reveal himself to me through His Word. If I don't know God more inimately after reading a passage I need to linger on it until I do, no matter how long that takes.
This will take time and much prayer but I hope to get to a place where I can say that the Bible knocks my socks off daily.
